Making Yourself a Priority: 7 Tips for Prioritizing Your Mental Health Wellness

Making yourself a priority begins with YOU. Mental or emotional rest requires you to stop doing whatever it is you're doing. Rest is crucial for better mental health, increased concentration and memory, a healthier immune system, reduced stress, improved mood among other things. It is essential to embrace healthy habits for mental health wellness so you can be the best version of yourself.


It is important that you take the time to reset, recharge and refuel so you can your best life now!


Tip #1 - Build a Support Network


Cultivate relationships with people who support and uplift you. Share your thoughts and feelings with trusted friends or family members, or consider seek professional help if needed. I have a strong supportive core group whom I chat with and we support each other by posting positive messages and schedule times to celebrate each others' successes.


Tip #2 - Set a Consistent Sleep Schedule


Decide what is the best bedtime for you. Be realistic about it. Think how you can change your schedule and go to sleep 15 mins earlier each night until you reach your goal? Commit to small steps and stick to it.

Tip #3 - Practice Self-Care


Make time for activities that bring you joy and relaxation, This could be hobbies, exercise, spending time with loved ones, or simply taking a break to unwind. I love to sit and listen to my audiobooks or a podcast download, alone with my Chai tea.


Tip #4 - Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle


Focus on getting enough sleep, eating nutritious meals, and engaging in regular physical activity. Taking care of you physical health can positively impact your mental well-being.


Tip #5 - Prioritize Mental Breaks


Allow yourself moments of rest and relaxation throughout the day. Practice mindfulness or meditation to help calm your mind and reduce stress. I schedule mindfulness breaks throughout the day using my smart device, it is helpful because it provides me with alerts which keeps me on track.


Tip #5 - Limit Exposure to Negativity


Be mindful of the media you consume and the people you surround yourself with daily. Reduce exposure to negative news or toxic individuals, seek out positive and uplifting content instead.


Tip #5 - Practice Gratitude/ Keep a Reflection Journal


Take time each day to reflect on the things you are grateful for and capture it in a journal. This can help shift your focus to the positive aspects of your life and enhance your overall well-being.
