Yes, you read the title correctly, make yourself a priority, it may sound a bit odd when you first see it written or saying out loud. However, it is actually the most important thing you can do for yourself and those you care about. It's simply putting yourself first, which means focusing on self-care, self-improvement, and prioritizing one's own well-being.
At the start of COVID-19 2019/2020, like many, I found myself really reflecting on what mattered and how the smallest things like hugging your loved ones, going to the store and being able to share a meal with a friend were most valuable. Since then I have been intentional about making myself a priority. Somedays are easier than others as I have to make sure that I am consistent in my well-being in order to show up as the best version of myself.
When considering what making yourself a priority looks like, think about the following: setting boundaries, prioritizing your mental health, self reflection and personal growth, nurturing your passions and interests, overcoming self doubt and building confidence, and saying "No" and setting healthy boundaries.
